$150,000 in handbags stolen from Neiman Marcus
PALO ALTO CA May 23 2021 – A “coordinated group” of at least 10 people stole $150,000 worth of handbags from a Palo Alto department store on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Officers were initially called to the Neiman Marcus at Stanford Shopping Center about 12:20 p.m. for a report of a man with a gun, the Palo Alto Police Department said in a news release.
An investigation, however, revealed that a group of five men and five women had entered the department store and grabbed 43 handbags, police said. Some of the handbags were ripped off security cables, which caused glass in display cabinets to shatter.
“Police believe someone mistook the sound of the breaking display cabinet glass to be a gunshot, as there is no evidence any of the suspects were armed,” police said.
The suspects left the scene in three vehicles, which were described as a white Ford Mustang, a dark blue Infiniti four-door sedan and a white Infiniti four-door sedan, police said.
The handbags were valued at $150,000, police said.
Police released surveillance images of the suspects, who were last seen wearing face coverings and hooded items of clothing.
