Security guard at Amazon arrested for fraud
Memphis, Tenn. June 21 2021 — A Memphis woman faces 2 felonies and 4 misdemeanors after allegedly using her position as a security guard at Amazon to steal money from someone who showed up looking for a job.
According to Memphis Police, 24-year-old Tiffany Chism was working as a security guard at the Amazon building on East Holmes Road when a potential co-worker showed up for an interview.
Police said the interviewee turned their phone over to Chism at the security checkpoint upon arrival.
According to a police affidavit, one minute after the interviewee passed through the checkpoint, Chism walked 6 feet away and began making transactions on the phone, telling the interviewee that she was helping with her potential co-worker’s I9 form.
Police said video of the incident actually shows Chism making a $200.00 CashApp deposit from that phone to her own account.
That deposit went through, but a second attempt at $500.00 did not, according to police.
The interviewee called police and Chism was detained.
Officers reported finding proof of the transactions on her phone.
Chism now faces 2 counts of identity theft, 2 counts of theft of property and 2 counts of fraudulent use/illegal possession of a credit or debit card.
