Shooter killed by security officer at Houston apartment complex
HOUSTON TX June 26 2021 – Houston police are investigating after they said a security officer shot and killed a man who opened fire near an apartment complex in northeast Houston.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 3 p.m. at the Crofton Place Apartments on Crofton Street near Tidwell Road east of the Eastex Freeway.
HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said an apartment security guard heard a shooting happen in the street near the complex and went to investigate.
That is when the security officer said he saw one man driving a vehicle and shooting at another man who was trying to escape on foot, police said.
Police said the security officer tried to intervene and stop the man in the vehicle, and that is when he shot at the driver multiple times. That gunman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crowson said investigators are talking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance video and will speak with the District Attorney’s Office to determine if the security guard will face any charges.
