Polk County teams up with security company to install crime cameras around county
POLK COUNTY, N.C. August 1 2021 Polk County law enforcement has teamed up with a security company for a high-tech test, designed to catch crooks on the road.
The Flock Safety Company is in the process of installing surveillance cameras.
These cameras can identify cars based on their license plate, with the information going into a national database which can tell if the car has been involved in a crime.
Deputies say they won’t be looking for traffic violations.
“Some people may think that we’re looking to look for speeders or violations on your vehicle; it’s nothing like that,” said Lt. Jeff Smith, with Polk County Sheriff’s Office. “It’s looking for stolen vehicles, Silver Alert or Amber Alert.”
The cameras are still being installed as of the end of July, mostly in remote areas of the county.
