Man slashed by security guard calls police, ends up getting arrested
SAN DIEGO CA August 4 2021 — A man who called San Diego police to report he had been stabbed by a security guard in downtown early Tuesday ended up being arrested himself after officers determined the security guard was acting in self-defense.
The guard had been trying to move the man away from the front of the CVS store on 5th and C streets so the store could open. As she did that, the man got up, threatened to kill her and charged at her with balled up fists, police Sgt. Mike Kellington told OnScene TV.
The security guard backed up and pulled a knife, telling the man she didn’t want to use it — but he kept threatening her so she slashed him once, wounding him in the chest, Kellington said.
“He started dropping racial slurs on her and he continued to attempt to attack her,” Kellington said. “She slashed him once in self defense.”
The man continued to come toward her when an unknown bystander came to the woman’s assistance and pushed the man away.
Paramedics transported the man to the hospital to be treated for his injury, which was not considered life-threatening.
After reviewing security footage and talking to witnesses, Kellington said officers determined the woman had been acting in self-defense.
The man likely will be issued a citation for making criminal threats, police Officer Scott Lockwood said.
