Man suspected in two Atlanta armored truck robberies shot by police
Cobb County GA Aug 5 2021
A man who was shot by police in Cobb County on Monday afternoon has been linked to at least two armored truck robberies in metro Atlanta, authorities said Tuesday afternoon.
The GBI and FBI are investigating after Glennis Harris, 28, of Vallejo, California, was wounded during a pursuit with Powder Springs police.
Officials said Harris is connected to multiple robberies, including one in Cherokee County that sent a Brinks security guard to a hospital with a gunshot wound just hours prior to the Powder Springs incident.
The FBI is looking into possible federal charges in regard to the robberies, agency spokesman Kevin Rowson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
On Monday afternoon, Powder Springs police tried to stop the car Harris was driving on Brownsville Road at C.H. James Parkway about 4:30 p.m., GBI spokeswoman Natalie Ammons said. When Harris didn’t stop, he was shot by an officer, she said.
During the pursuit, Harris struck two other vehicles, Ammons said. No one in those vehicles was hurt.
Harris was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured during the incident.
Earlier Monday, a Brinks security guard was shot around 7:45 a.m. during an armed robbery near the Wellstar Cherokee Health Park, according to a spokesperson for the Holly Springs Police Department. The guard was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta and was considered stable.
Police did not say if anything was taken during the robbery attempt.
On Sunday, a Loomis Security employee took gunfire on Metropolitan Parkway in Atlanta, according to police.
A man approached the guard as he was getting out of his truck, pointed a gun and grabbed a bag of money, authorities said. As the man ran away, police said he fired his gun at the guard, who was not injured. The guard returned fire, police said, before the man drove away.
Powder Springs police arrested Harris after Monday’s shooting and charged him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He previously served prison time in California and was paroled in 2015, records show.
The shooting was the 58th involving a law enforcement officer the GBI has been asked to investigate this year, and the second in 24 hours. On Sunday, a 31-year-old man was shot by a SWAT team in Clayton County when officers tried to serve him an arrest warrant, according to the GBI.
