Man shoots himself to death in Cape Coral Hospital ER
Cape Coral FL Sept 5 2021 Cape Coral police were on the scene investigating an ‘apparent suicide’ at the Cape Coral Emergency Room located on Del Prado Blvd. S, the department said.
Officials later confirmed the man entered the hospital and locked himself in a bathroom before committing suicide with a gun.
CCPD officers and hospital security were turning people away as they investigated, only accepting dire emergencies.
No Lee Health employees or patients were hurt during the incident, a spokesperson for the hospital system said.
One woman was at the hospital with her mother who had a stroke. She was waiting outside while her mom got treatment before the scene unfolded.
“We don’t know what’s going on. We don’t know what’s going on with them. We just know the hospital’s locked down,” she said.
Investigators have finished their work at the hospital and the scene has since been cleared. As for what caused the man to run inside the Cape Coral emergency room and kill himself, officers said they don’t know.
