MD security officer murdered at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
Lanham MD November 4 2021
A 32-year-old man has been charged with first- and second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a security guard in Lanham on Saturday, Prince George’s police said Wednesday.
Damon Sams, of the District, also faces assault charges in the killing of Phillip Brown, 44, of Bowie, police said.
Officers received a call for a reported shooting around 11:45 p.m. at a Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in the 9800 block of Good Luck Road.
Police said they found Brown with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot. He later died at a hospital.
Sams is accused of shooting Brown during a dispute when Brown was working as a security guard at a private event at the VFW Post, according to an initial investigation, police said.
Another private security guard shot back at the gunman, police said. The gunman went to a hospital where he was treated and released for nonfatal gunshot wounds, police said.
Sams is awaiting extradition from the District to Prince George’s County.
It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney.
