Bystander killed after asking shooter to leave security guards alone

Albuquerque police have arrested a suspect in the 107th homicide of 2021.
Police said 38-year-old Patrick Saavedra was threatening security guards with guns around midnight in downtown Albuquerque.
Investigators said a bystander stepped up to Saavedra and told him to leave the officers alone, at which time Saavedra shot him in the chest.
Police said Saavedra fled the scene in a white truck.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.
The security guards and other witnesses in the area were able to help police identify Saavedra and the truck he was driving.
Officers tracked Saavedra down at a home in southwest Albuquerque and took him into custody around 7:40 a.m.
Saavedra has been charged with an open count of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police have not released the name of the man killed.
