OMAHA, Neb. —Dec 28 2021
A judge has set bond at $2.5 million for a former Omaha Public Schools security guard accused of sexually assaulting a child.
Carlos J. Ornelas Ramirez, 23, was arrested by Bellevue Police on Dec. 22 and was charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child and third-degree sexual assault of a child.
Ramirez, a former Pawnee Elementary security guard, made his first appearance in Sarpy County Court on Monday. He would have to pay $250,000 to make bail.
Detectives say they believe the suspect then sexually assaulted the victim inside the portable classroom.
Police said Omaha Public Schools reported the alleged incident and cooperated with the Bellevue Police Department throughout the investigation.
Pawnee Elementary principal Beth Holland said in a statement on Dec. 22, “Carlos Ornelas-Ramirez is no longer an employee of our district and had been placed on leave immediately after our district learned of the allegations. He was employed between Oct. 6 and Dec. 16, 2021.”
