Howard County MD school security officer arrested for assaulting student
HOWARD COUNTY, MD Feb 4, 2022– A school security guard who tried to thwart an assault by a student against other students is now facing criminal charges for striking the teen during the altercation.
As part of an investigation into a Dec. 2 incident at Howard High School, Howard County Police have charged Michael Williams, an employee of the Howard County Public School System, with second-degree assault against a student.
The incident occurred when a 17-year-old male student began assaulting multiple other students in the school cafeteria. Williams, an HCPSS security assistant, physically engaged the student to stop the attacks.
After a detailed police investigation and review by the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office, it was determined that Williams’ actions, which included striking the teen, warranted a criminal charge. The student was charged as a juvenile in December for the assaults against other students.
