Security officer assaulted while detaining robbery suspect

On Wednesday, April 13, Highland deputies arrested a robbery suspect after he reportedly assaulted a security guard at the AM/PM at 25717 Base Line.
According to a police report, at approximately 5 a.m., the suspect Vernon Hull, 29, of Highland attempted to steal items from the ARCO AMPM Mini-Mart. A store security guard confronted Hull and tried to stop him. Hull assaulted the security guard and tried to flee. The security guard held Hull down as other employees called 911.
Deputies from the Highland Station arrived and found the security guard still struggling with Hull. Deputies arrested Hull for robbery and booked him at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino. At the time of this incident, he was wanted for an unrelated narcotics charge and there was an active warrant for his arrest.
