GREENSBORO, N.C. June 2 2022
Two people robbed a Greensboro sweepstakes business, police said. A suspect attacked a security guard who worked there that night, she said.
Greensboro police said they are investigating an armed robbery that happened at a sweepstakes business on Summit Avenue on May 9 at 12:58 a.m. However, they did not disclose which one.
Two suspects entered the business armed with handguns, they said, and took an undisclosed amount of cash and property before running away.
Police described one of the suspects as a female who is five feet and seven inches tall and wore a gray hoodie with a black ski mask. The other suspect is a male who is five feet and 10 inches tall, they added, and wore a black hoodie with a black ski mask.
Police did not share any other details.
WXII 12 News asked authorities if they would be able to release a photo or security camera
They said they are not able to release it at this time.
WXII 12 News talked with 30-year-old Lou Tolliver who said she worked as a security guard for the business that night. She had worked in that role for about five months.
Her shift began at 10 p.m. on May 8th.
She said one of the suspects attacked her and she almost died.
“Every time I close my eyes I see it. Every single time I try to go to sleep, I can’t sleep,” she shared.
Tolliver said she was inside the business when she saw two people approach and push her coworker outside.
If Tolliver did not open the door and let the suspects inside the business, she said they threatened to kill her coworker.
“I was scared for her,” said Tolliver. “I was scared for me. You know a lot of these situations happened and they don’t really live. Just happy to be here.”
When Tolliver opened the door, she said a man attacked her, dragged her to the bathroom, and kept striking her with his handgun.
“I told him leave me alone, I’m dying,” she said. “Like I literally felt it. I’m pouring — like look like someone put a faucet on — like I’m pouring blood. I said leave me alone. I’m dying. Just let me go.”
Tolliver urged the man to stop, and said it “saved my life.”
“I don’t know if he heard me talk and knew I was a girl or he got scared because I said I was dying,” she told WXII 12 News.
Tolliver suffered a broken bone in her mouth with several cuts and bruises on her face and head. She is currently on the road to recovery and is no longer working at the business, she added.
Tolliver said she hopes police will find the two people responsible for the robbery and her injuries. She said, “I just want them to think. Money is not worth what you did. That money is not going to last always. The world is expensive. That wasn’t going to last you a long time, so you rather kill someone for a temporary fix.”
She told WXII 12 News that she’s trying to stay positive. She’s grateful to be alive, she added, and that she can celebrate life in four weeks.
“Even though it’s an ugly tragedy, I still have to smile because I’m here. I made it to my birthday. I’ll be 31. I’m pretty happy.”
A GoFundme was created to help Tolliver with her medical expenses.
