Dallas TX June 2 2022
A man is behind bars after police say he fatally shot a 38-year-old security guard on a South Dallas street in April.
Anthony Dewayne Brown, 50, faces a murder charge in the death of Karl Arthur Hollins Jr. It’s unclear whether Brown has an attorney.
The evening of April 7, officers were called to a shooting in the 3400 block of Harmon Street, near Robert B. Cullum Boulevard, and found Hollins in the street with a gunshot wound. He was taken to
Several witnesses stopped to help Hollins before police arrived.
Investigators learned that Hollins had been walking in the area wearing his security guard uniform and gun, police wrote in an arrest-warrant affidavit.
Police did not identify Hollins’ employer.
Before the shooting, Hollins approached the gunman, later identified as Brown, and they “had an exchange of words,” police wrote in the affidavit. Hollins was seen going toward Brown in an “aggressive manner” as Brown tried to get away, police allege.
Brown then pulled out a handgun and shot Hollins before fleeing in a truck, police said.
Several anonymous tips were submitted during the investigation, police wrote in the affidavit, leading them to Brown.
Detectives tried calling Brown and eventually obtained a search warrant for his cellphone records. The records showed Brown in the area at the time of the shooting and then leaving after Hollins was shot, the affidavit says.
Brown is being held in the Dallas County jail, with bail set at $250,000. Jail records show he is on probation for using or possessing fraudulent identification.
