Police charge Wallington man with Clifton Home Depot robbery
CLIFTON NJ May 12 2017 — A Bergen County man wanted in connection with last week’s robbery of a Home Depot in Clifton was apprehended, said police.
Joseph Marotta, 34, of Wallington, was arrested and charged with robbery.
According to police reports, the Home Depot’s security staff detained a male suspect on May 2 in the rear of the Bloomfield Avenue location after allegedly observing him shoplift $211 in assorted tools.
While detained by employees, police said the man assaulted a store manager and successfully escaped the retail warehouse.
“It was a push and shove job, which elevated it to robbery,” said Detective Lt. Robert Bracken, the Clifton Police Department’s spokesman.
During the two days following the robbery, the suspect remained at large, reports show.
Bracken said subsequent investigation and review of the store’s video surveillance led responding officers to identify Marotta as the individual responsible for the robbery.
