Laredo man arrested for assaulting security officer

A man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a security guard at El Metro in downtown Laredo.
Macedonio Javier Leija, 47, was arrested on the charge of assault on a security officer.
Laredo police officers responded to El Metro Transit on 1301 Farragut Street at about 4:37 p.m. July 10. A security guard who patrols the El Metro downtown stated that while doing his rounds, he encountered Leija disturbing people by the Greyhound Bus Station.
The security guard told Leija to leave the property several times. But Leija would return to ask people for money. At one point, the security guard walked with Leija to the corner of Farragut and Salinas Avenue.
That’s when Leija got “verbally aggressive” and punched the security guard, according to police. The security guard recorded the incident with his cellphone. When police spoke to Leija, he denied that he hit the security guard.
