Man shot dead by security officer following attempted stabbing in Brooklyn Park
Brooklyn Park MN Aug 3, 2022
Brooklyn Park police say the man who was shot by a security officer Monday night has died from his injuries in the hospital.
A security officer on duty heard a woman screaming for help and saw a man trying to stab a woman with a knife. He went on to say the man ignored his orders to drop the knife, so the security officer shot the man.
Police say the man, 62, had a “domestic relationship” with the woman who he was assaulting.
Despite life-saving efforts, the man died in the hospital. No updates have been provided on the woman’s condition.
Police say the security guard, who is an employee of 10-Code Security and was working at Huntington Place apartment complex, is fully cooperating with the investigation.
Aeon, the company in charge of Huntington Place, says it is helping law enforcement with the investigation “in every way we can.” Aeon says staff members are on site to support residents.
While Brooklyn Park investigates, Aeon says it is unable to comment on how long private security has patrolled Huntington Place and if security guards have always been armed.
The identities of the man, woman and officer have yet to be released.
