Syracuse Regional Airport Authority will create and maintain its own police force
Syracuse NY August 4 2022
The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority will create and maintain its own police force, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office announced.
The governor signed legislation on Thursday to make the change.
Syracuse Police have been responsible for public safety at the airport up until this point.
Officials said this will help ease the department’s staffing shortage.
The airport police authority would be considered New York State Police officers.
“By having dedicated police officers at Hanock International Airport, we will help ensure the safety and security of New Yorkers and visitors alike,” Gov. Hochul said in a statement.
“This legislation will provide travelers and airport employees with greater peace of mind when traveling in Syracuse.”
