Suspect ransacked hotel rooms, attacked guard, stole paintings
SEATTLE WA Dec 7 2017 – A man is in custody after he allegedly broke into nine rooms at an International District hotel, attacked a security guard and made off with some paintings early Tuesday morning, police said.
The strange incident unfolded at around 4 a.m. when officers responded to a hotel in the 600 block of Main Street after receiving a report of a man ransacking hotel rooms, said Jonah Spangenthal-Lee of the Seattle police.
The officers arrived just in time to spot the man casually walking out of the front door of the hotel while carrying two paintings, Spangenthal-Lee said. The officers quickly chased down the suspect and took him into custody.
Officers then spoke to the hotel’s night watchman, who had some difficulty recounting what had happened. Police found indications he may have been assaulted by the suspect and suffered a head injury. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Officers recovered a number of hotel room keys from the suspect’s backpack and booked him into the King County Jail for investigation of burglary, police said.
