Security guard shoots needle-wielding shoplifter in the face, police say
BALTIMORE MD October 23 2022 A case of shoplifting turned into a shooting in Maryland after a man tried to stab a security guard with a needle, according to authorities.
The Baltimore Police Department said officers were called to a scene in East Harbor for reports of a shooting around 9 a.m. EDT on Friday.
Authorities in Baltimore say a man wielding a syringe was shot in the face after he tried to stab a security guard in the face.
The department said officers found a man who had been shot in the face. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
Police said a security guard saw the man stealing items from a CVS Pharmacy and tried to stop him as he was leaving the store.
Investigators said the man then pulled out a syringe and tried to stab the security guard.
Police said the security guard then pulled out his gun and shot the man in the face.
The store remained closed throughout the day.
There’s just so many people who I believe are unhinged,” said Dawn Uncles, who had walked to the Pharmacy to pick up a prescription. “I don’t know another word to use. Just completely unhinged. He had the opportunity to drop his things and just run. But to force somebody to have to harm them? I feel sorry for all involved.”
Authorities have not said if any charges have been filed.
