Baltimore security officer under investigation after fatal shooting

A man shot dead after trying to stab a security guard with a syringe has died and police are now conducting a homicide investigation.
The suspected shoplifter, who has not yet been identified, was shot in the face at a Baltimore pharmacy on Friday morning and had originally been reported as being in critical condition.
Southeast District patrol officers confirmed the incident happened in the 600 block of Exeter Street in the neighborhood of Harbour East and the case has now been transferred to the homicide detectives.
Officers were called to the scene at 9am after reports of a shooting in the area but when cops arrived a man was found with a gunshot wound to his face.
Police have revealed the man was caught stealing items from the store and was trying to leave the shop with the items when the security officer confronted him.
The suspect then pulled out a syringe from his clothing and tried to stab the security guard, who quickly got out his firearm and shot the suspect in the face, police confirmed.
The store management said no customers or staff were injured in the incident as police investigate.
They store representative said that the security officer involved in this incident is employed by a third-party contract security agency.
Police say that the shooting will be further investigated and turned over to the district attorney’s office to review for any charges.
