Security Guard in Coconut Creek Cited by Police for Having Improper Police-Like Lights on His SUV
COCONUT CREEK, FL December 24, 2022– A contracted security guard working at the Home Depot in Coconut Creek was given a criminal citation after a police officer discovered police-like lights on his SUV, according to a police report.
Neville Webb, 60, of Coral Springs, was told by a Coconut Creek police officer that he needed to get rid of the red and blue lights along with the siren package in his Lexus SUV.
The citation was given shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 14 when the officer spotted red and blue lights activated on Webb’s SUV in the parking lot of Home Depot at 4550 North State Road 7, the report said.
Webb was dressed in black pants, black boots, a black collared shirt, with a ballistic vest on top of it, the report said.
His ballistic vest had “Officer. N. Webb” inscribed on the front and back of it, the report said.
He was also wearing a dual magazine holster on his right side which was next to a badge that read “Law Enforcement” with a number under it, the report said.
And Webb was wearing a body camera, the report said.
In Webb’s SUV, there was a toggle control that had sirens attached to it, and three different sirens, an air horn, and a public announcement system.
Webb told the officer he bought the equipment and had it installed, the report said.
According to the report, Webb had a valid “Class D” security license and a valid “Class G” gun license.
Webb also told the officer he was an informant for U.S. Border Patrol.
When the officer contacted Webb’s supervisor at Home Depot, the supervisor told the officer that Webb’s job as a security guard was inside the store, the report said.
Webb’s supervisor also told the officer that there is not supposed to be any “red and blue lights in his vehicle because Webb is in fact not a police officer,” the report said.
According to the report, Webb was not attempting to give lawful orders or act as a law enforcement officer.
Because of this, Webb was not physically arrested, the report said.
Instead, the officer gave Webb a Uniform Traffic Citation for Red and Blue lights on a vehicle, the report said.
