Hotel security officer lost a chunk of flesh as he struggled with man trying to take his gun
OKLAHOMA CITY OK Jan 11 2023
A fight outside a metro hotel left a security guard in the hospital and a suspect behind bars. Police say Angelo Gilliam started a fight with that security guard outside of the Hilton Garden Inn on NW Expressway after he was asked to leave the hotel for trespassing.
News9 obtained cell phone footage of the fight from inside the hotel, where it shows a man trying to steal the security officer’s gun and struggling with the officer. Gilliam allegedly threw a gallon jug of water at the officer, punched him in the face multiple times, and then threatened to kill him.
Through all of the struggle and fight, the security guard managed to keep Gilliam outside, away from hotel guests and staff.
“He put himself at risk for our hotel and my team members,” said Doris Holliday, the general manager at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Oklahoma City Police explained how this altercation began.
“Police were summoned to the Hilton Garden Inn this was on NW Expressway,” said Sgt. Gary Knight with OCPD.
“Somebody who had been banned from that property tried to come back, was standing in the lobby when the security guard told him he needed to leave (and) that he was trespassing,” said Sgt. Knight.
“The suspect at that point decided to attack the security guard, tried to take his gun from him unsuccessfully.”
In the video of the attack, you can hear the security guard telling Gilliam to “stop biting.”
“He apparently bit the security guard on the hand at one point actually causing a serious injury from the fight,” said Sgt. Knight.
“Unfortunately, the security guard was hurt in the incident,” explained Holliday.
The police report says that Gilliam bit the security guard so hard that a chunk of his hand was hanging off. The security guard was transported to a hospital and is expected to be OK.
Gilliam was taken into custody quickly after the fight and was arrested on multiple complaints including trespassing, maiming, and assault.
