Four arrested after Walmart robbed, employees pepper sprayed and police pursuit
Sand Springs OK Dec 21 2017 Sand Springs police arrested four of five people who reportedlywere involved in pepper-spraying employees while robbing a Walmart store and then were chased to north Tulsa.
One man evaded arrest.
The five entered Walmart, located at 220 Oklahoma 97, about 4 a.m. Monday and collected about $3,900 in merchandise from the store, according to an affidavit.
An employee told investigators she heard someone in the group say they would take items and then “make a break for it.” When employees attempted to talk to the group, a man reportedly pepper-sprayed the employees and then shouted obscenities.
The group allegedly put on a charade at the self-checkout line. Police state in the affidavit that they were “passing items back and forth and bagging” the merchandise without scanning. The employees had been watching them because of their “suspicious behavior,” police state.
As the group fled the store, the man with the pepper stray used it on a security guard, police said.
Police said officers located their vehicle traveling on U.S. 412, and that the driver sped up when an officer turned on his emergency lights.
Speeds during the pursuit reached 114 mph, police said
Officers chased the vehicle from U.S. 412 to U.S. 75 and through the Apache Street exit until the pursuit ended in the 1300 block of East 51st Place North, police said.
The vehicle’s occupants reportedly dumped merchandise from the windows during the pursuit.
