Knox County Sheriff: About 290 people arrested for retail crime this holiday shopping season
Knox County TN Dec 22 2017 The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has arrested about 290 people for retail crime and recovered around $60,000 in stolen property so far this holiday shopping season, according to a post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page.
The recovered property includes four stolen vehicles, one of which contained approximately $10,000 in cash and 15 grams of methamphetamine.
The sheriff’s office Organized Retail Crime Task Force conducted the investigations, the post said.
The task force “was created to help provide a safe shopping experience for the citizens of Knox County,” it said. “Its officers are combating purse snatchings, store thefts, car burglaries, car thefts, forgery, fraud, and other criminal activity that occurs during the holiday shopping season.”
“We’re combating these crimes that are prolific during this time of the year,” said KCSO Chief Lee Tramel in the post. “Statistics show us that the vast majority of these crimes committed are fueled by the opioid epidemic, and the men and women of the sheriff’s office are committed to fighting these crimes with the goal of eradicating the epidemic.”
