Private security continues to be one of the few “professions” that does not require true training, certifications, licensing or skills.
Over 2 dozen states still do not require any training at all for unarmed security officers.
Hair stylists, EMT’s, nurse aids, paramedics, firefighters, law enforcement, plumbers, electricians and most other professions require substantial training. The average national wage for a hairstylist is around $19.00 plus tips, EMT’s make around $36,000 per year and CNA’s the average hourly rate is just $13.10.
And with most of these professions, you must have the training and certification or state license “before” applying for the job.
A minimum of 100-150 hours of training including practical and scenario for armed security should be required which would cost between $1000-$2000 in many states.
Are you willing to pay the price for training, certification or licensing to work as a private security officer?
Right now, the average pay for a security officer is $15.44 per hour. Less in some areas and more in others.
In some cities, security officers are paid more because of local laws that set wages for certain professions.
Of course, security companies and clients must raise their rates as well so that quality, experienced officers can be hired, trained and correctly secure the business.
In just 4 months this year, 30 security officers have been killed on duty. The majority, murdered including one this weekend during a mass shooting at a mall in Texas.
At least 68 security officers have been shot on duty.
And security officers have killed, 26 people so far this year.
87 security officers have been arrested.
It’s time to understand that “security” is changing rapidly and the observe and report model does not work and in some situations is causing security personnel to die and be sued for not protecting their client’s interests, staff and customers.
