Man assaulted and injured security officer at EC hospital
Eau Claire, WI May 27 2023 A Menomonie man physically assaulted and injured a security officer at an Eau Claire hospital, police say.
Dustin N. Lutz, 36, N3667 430th St., was charged Thursday in Eau Claire County Court with a felony count of bodily harm to a worker in a health care facility.
A $2,500 signature bond was set for Lutz, which prohibits him from having contact with the security guard or engaging in violent or abusive contact with anyone.
Lutz returns to court June 13 for a preliminary hearing.
According to the criminal complaint:
Eau Claire police officers were sent to HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital Wednesday on a report that Lutz assaulted a hospital security officer and made threats to kill people so he could go to jail.
One officer arrived, spoke with two nurses and observed blood on the floor. The officer was told that the blood was from the security officer, who was now in the Emergency Department getting treated for his injuries.
The officer spoke with the security officer in the Emergency Department. The man said he was dispatched by hospital officials to the fourth floor because Lutz was getting agitated. The man said he could tell Lutz was upset and tried to calm him down.
The man said Lutz believed he was smiling or laughing at him. This further upset Lutz. The man said Lutz then told him, “don’t laugh, or I will kick your (expletive).”
A short time later, Lutz lunged at the man, wrapped his arms around him and threw him to the ground. This caused the man to strike his head on the floor. The man said this caused him pain. The man said nursing staff then came in and separated them.
The man said he was in a full security officer uniform at the time of this incident and he did not consent to the assault.
If convicted, Lutz could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
