Police said a woman accused of shoplifting at a Dubuque grocery store nearly struck a store security guard and another pedestrian while driving from the scene.
Kierra U. Jackson, 29, of 2418 Central Ave., No. 2, was arrested at 1:56 p.m. Tuesday in the 2400 block of Central Avenue on charges of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, fourth-degree theft and providing false identification information. Jackson also was cited with reckless driving.
Court documents state that officers were dispatched around 1:50 p.m. Tuesday to Hy-Vee, 400 S. Locust St., for a report of a theft that had just occurred.
Investigators learned that Jackson and Cha’Quela B. Moore, 32, of 4111/2 W. Locust St., had taken $428 worth of items without scanning them at a self-checkout kiosk.
Video footage shows Jackson’s vehicle “aggressively backing out of its parking space” while leaving the store, documents state. The vehicle is shown nearly striking a Hy-Vee security guard, who had moved to get out of the way.
“The vehicle was then observed accelerating aggressively through the parking lot and almost striking another pedestrian that was putting their groceries in the back of their vehicle,” and almost striking another vehicle in the parking lot, documents state.
Police tracked the vehicle to the 2400 block of Central Avenue, where Jackson and Moore were taken into custody.
Moore was arrested on a charge of fourth-degree theft.
