Brinks security officer shoots and kills man at Maryland Starbucks store

An armored truck security employee shot and killed a man at a Starbucks in Forestville, Md. Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Police said the armored truck employee, who was in the coffee shop in the 3400 block of Donnell Drive conducting business with store employees, shot Jonathan Griffin, 35, of Upper Marlboro, who went behind the counter.
Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Police said they know that the armed truck employee was behind the counter when Griffin also went behind the counter, but police are trying to find out more about when and why the employee drew his gun and shot Griffin.
A Starbucks spokesperson told 7News that all of their employees are safe, and that the company’s focus is on supporting them and the local authorities.
Brinks spokesperson Dana Calahan told 7News, “We can confirm that one of our employees was involved in an incident at 3450 Donnell Drive in Forestville, Maryland. We are actively supporting law enforcement officials in their investigation and cannot comment further at this time.”
The incident is under investigation.
