Bus passenger arrested after hitting security officer
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Aug 15 2023
A passenger riding an ART bus on Central Avenue was arrested Saturday night after he allegedly hit a Metro Security officer, court documents said.
Albuquerque Police Department officers were called to the bus stop around 8 p.m. to help subdue Donald Johnson, 44, who was trying to fight with passengers. MS officer Christopher Allen told police that Johnson had also tried to fight with people at the Alvarado Transit Center before boarding the bus, the document said.
The document said that Allen and MS officer Ian Oliver told Johnson to get off the bus, which he did. He then allegedly hit Oliver in the face with an open palm. Oliver then sprayed Johnson with APD-issued protective spray.
Inside Johnson’s backpack, police found a plastic bag with white crystal inside, which a field test kit indicated was methamphetamine. He was taken into custody, and then was uncooperative while being transported, yelling and spitting in an APD officer’s face, the document said.
Johnson was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center and has been charged with battery on a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance and battery and assault of two other people.
