Skooter’s, Security Guard Hit With Lawsuit Despite Closure
Shorewood IL August 22 2023 Skooter’s Roadhouse closed this summer, but that has not stopped Reece Krider from filing a civil lawsuit against Skooter’s and employee Karl Petty, stemming from an incident that took place on April 8.
Krider filed his lawsuit last week at the Will County Courthouse against Jameson’s Pub, doing business as Skooter’s Roadhouse in Shorewood. The lawsuit indicates that co-defendant Petty lives in Joliet, and was employed as security by Skooter’s Roadhouse.
According to the lawsuit filed by attorney Sandra Ruiz of Dicker Dicker & Ruiz on West Adams Street in Chicago:
On April 8, Krider was lawfully on the premises of Skooter’s, at 700 West Jefferson Street in Shorewood, and Petty was employed and acting within the scope of his authority.
Petty, the lawsuit alleges, “without provocation, intentionally struck the plaintiff, Reece Krider, in the face and ear.”
The lawsuit contends that Petty “caused severe bodily harm and permanent injuries to the plaintiff, Reece Krider, when he intentionally struck the plaintiff in the face and ear.”
As a result of the incident, Krider was injured internally and externally and “he has been and will in the future be kept from attending to his ordinary affairs and duties and has become liable for large sums of money for medical treatment.”
The lawsuit seeks a judgment in Krider’s favor in excess of $50,000 against Skooter’s Roadhouse and Petty, plus punitive damages, plus interest and the costs of filing the lawsuit.
On July 21, Joliet Patch reported that Skooters announced it will no longer be open.
“Skooters is permanently closed. Thanks for 10 great years of memories,” the Facebook page message read.
