News UAB police officer killed in off-duty crash with Publix 18-wheeler at McCalla intersection
Birmingham Al Sept 12 2023 A UAB police officer was killed in an off-duty crash Monday in western Jefferson County.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality victim as Marvin Wade Hart. He was 61 and lived in McCalla.
Hart was a military veteran and a sergeant with the UAB Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit.
A man was killed Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, in a collision at the intersection of a McAshan Road and Old Tuscaloosa Highway in McCalla.
The crash involved a Publix 18-wheeler and Hart’s pickup truck.
The collision happened just before noon Monday McAshan Road and Old Tuscaloosa Highway in McCalla, said Jefferson County sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money.
Hart was taken to UAB Medical West where he was pronounced dead at 12:38 p.m.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is conducting the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
