Security officer hospitalized after opening package in Cubs’ offices

A security officer was transported to a local hospital after opening a package to the Chicago Cubs’ offices near Wrigley Field.
According to the Cubs, the security guard at the team’s offices in the 1100 block of West Waveland.
The security officer opened a package delivered to the facility and suffered an “allergic reaction” to a substance inside, a team spokesperson said.
Chicago fire and police responded to the scene, with a bomb squad evaluating the package, according to authorities.
Officials say the man came in contact with an unknown skin irritant, and he was transported to the hospital, where he was treated and released, according to the Cubs.
Personnel were not asked to evacuate the building, according to a spokesperson.
It remains unknown at this time what was in the package, and an investigation remains underway.
