Police arrest man for assaulting Roaring Fork Transportation Authority security and a police officer

A man was arrested in Aspen on Friday for allegedly assaulting a Roaring Fork Transportation Authority security officer and an Aspen Police Officer, according to court documents.
Randall Chase, 60, was arrested on charges of second- and third-degree assault, third-degree criminal trespass, resisting arrest, and harassment.
At approximately 10:53 p.m. on Friday, police were dispatched to the 400 block of East Durant Avenue for a report of a man kicking bikes and screaming. Upon arrival, police found Chase screaming incoherently and causing a disturbance.
Police were informed by RFTA security that Chase had assaulted him as well as a road supervisor after they informed him that he was banned from riding the bus for a previous incident a few days prior. According to police, he was seen running away from them down Durant Avenue before taking a bike that did not belong to him and using it to further escape the scene.
Officers followed Chase down the Rio Grande Trail while other officers waited at the other end of Slaughterhouse Bridge, hoping to cut off his path. Once he saw police, he abandoned the stolen bike and ran toward the Roaring Fork River in an effort to avoid arrest.
Police managed to catch him before reaching the river and placed him under arrest. Once in handcuffs, Chase reportedly assaulted one of the officers by kicking him in the knee, according to the arrest affidavit.
While in custody, he appeared before a judge at the Pitkin County Courthouse over the weekend who set his bond at $2,500. On Monday, Judge Seldin set a new bond hearing for 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 6.
