Security officer critically shot, fatally shoots attacker during struggle for his firearm

A security officer on duty at a QuikTrip gas station has been shot and has fatally shot a man overnight.
Police are reporting that the shooting happened just after midnight Monday during an altercation between the suspect and the security officer inside the business at 4101 Gravois Ave.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect suffered a gunshot wound to the head, and the 39-year-old security officer was shot in his thigh during a struggle for his gun.
The suspect was found dead on the floor inside the gas station.
EMS immediately treated and transported the security officer to an area hospital with critical injuries, police said.
The Homicide Division assumed the ongoing investigation.
Michael Junk, manager of public and government affairs for QuikTrip, released the following statement Monday morning regarding the deadly shooting: “Our top priority is always the safety of our employees and customers, and we take this responsibility very seriously. We are working closely with local law enforcement and will continue to assist with their ongoing investigation into the incident that took place today between a third-party security contractor and an individual at our Gravois Avenue location. We will continue to take necessary and appropriate measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees, customers, and communities we serve.”
