Portland man arrested after threatening park rangers, hurling urine and rocks at police
PORTLAND, Ore. March 24 2024 Portland Police say Portland Park Rangers were patrolling the East Bank Esplanade on Friday and approached a man who was illegally camping in a tent.
Officials say when the park rangers approached, the man, now identified as 27-year-old Alexander Thurman, threatened them with a needle.
The rangers backed off and called for the police. When officers approached, Thurman allegedly threw a cup of urine and rocks at the officers, police say.
Kevin Allen with PPB says the officers disengaged and additional resources were brought in to reduce the chance of injuries.
“Once additional resources were there, officers challenged the suspect, who was uncooperative and continued to throw rocks,” Allen said.
Police say an officer used a less-lethal launcher, which did not strike him. However, Thurman dropped the rocks and ran. Officers caught up with him and took him into custody.
Thurman was taken to the Multnomah County Jail on the following charges:
Menacing
Disorderly Conduct
Interfering with a peace officer
