A South Carolina school security officer has been spared prison time after admitting to engaging in sexual relationships with two students from 2015 to 2018.
A former deputy in Richland County, S.C., Jamel Bradley, 45, has been sentenced to probation and ordered to join the sex offender registry. The guilty plea was made on Tuesday, Sep. 3, according to reports from the Associated Press, The State, and WIS 10.
According to the Rickland County online case portal, the charges he initially faced were third-degree criminal sexual conduct and sexual battery with a student aged 16 or 17, without aggravated force or coercion.
According to The Washington Post, The State, and WIS 10, the charges carried a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
According to online court records, Bradley pleaded guilty to sexual battery with one student and assault and battery of the first degree against another student after reaching a deal with authorities.
According to The State, evidence presented in the case showed that Bradley, a school resource officer, had a disturbing pattern of luring female students to meet with him in his office or patrol car.
According to the Associated Press, Bradley was the top scorer for the University of South Carolina basketball team during his junior and senior years.
In 2019, he faced charges related to a case of sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old student, according to WISTV. According to WIS 10, in 2015, a student at the high school where Bradley worked reported having a consensual relationship with him during her senior year.
In a separate incident in 2018, Bradley visited a female student’s residence after school hours. He then drove her to a dead end and engaged in inappropriate behavior by kissing and touching her, according to Assistant Solicitor Kathryn Cavanaugh, as reported by WIS 10.
