Two suspects arrested after robbery spree across San Antonio, police say
SAN ANTONIO TX September 30, 2024 — Two suspects have been arrested after a string of robberies around San Antonio Friday, police say.
Austin Mendoza, 20, and Marcelo Ojeda, 19, are the two suspects arrested for aggravated robbery.
At about 12 p.m., police say the suspects arrived at the Rolling Oaks Mall. They went to the jewelry store and waited for the store to open. After about 45 minutes in the store, Mendoza took items without paying and fled to a suspect vehicle with Ojeda, according to police. A victim confronted the suspects and was cut in the process by an unknown object. The suspects fled the scene.
About three hours later, at about 3 p.m., the same two suspects were seen allegedly trying to break into vehicles in the Ingram Mall parking lot, about 23 miles from the last mall they were just at. The two were then seen running into the mall. Later on, they left the mall and started driving around the parking lot in the same suspect vehicle, being followed by mall security. Police say Mendoza pointed what appeared to be a handgun at a mall security guard and threatened to kill him. The suspect then fled the scene.
About two hours later, at about 5 p.m., police say the two suspects were at a convenience store located at 3607 Wurzbach, less than a mile away from the Ingram Mall. Police say Mendoza went into the store, grabbed items then left the store without paying. A worker tried to get Mendoza to pay, but then Ojeda brandished a pistol and threatened the worker. Police were called and were in route to the scene.
The suspect vehicle then broke down at the store, according to police, and both suspects started fleeing on foot. After a short chase, Mendoza was taken into custody. With help from a helicopter, Ojeda was located and arrested as well.
Both Mendoza and Ojeda have been charged with aggravated robbery for the convenience store incident and evading arrest on foot. More warrants are expected for the other two events.
