California armored truck robber gets 51-years-to-life in state prison
Windsor CA Jan 26 2018 A 25-year-old man who pleaded no contest to a 2016 Windsor robbery of an armored car and attempted murder of a Calistoga police officer was sentenced Thursday to 51-years-to-life in state prison.
Sergey Gutsu, 25, of Antelope, was involved in a holdup of an armored car outside a Chase Bank at Lakewood Village shopping center on July 12, 2016 with co-defendant and childhood friend Ivan Morales, 25, of Lake County.
Morales was found guilty of armed robbery and attempted murder by a Sonoma County Superior Court jury Jan. 4 and is slated to be sentenced March 8.
Morales shot and wounded the Loomis armored car guard with an AK-47 rifle, grabbed a bag filled with $30,000 in cash and jumped into a stolen car driven by Gutsu.
The men switched cars before fleeing east but were spotted by a Calistoga police officer as they entered the city. Gutsu shot at the officer who then rammed him with his patrol car, and arresting Gutsu. Morales fled on foot but was caught hours later after a manhunt.
Gutsu is suspected of other crimes throughout California including the 2015 murder of a San Dimas sandwich shop owner.
