He shot a Tacoma security guard, and was found not guilty by reason of insanity
Tacoma WA Jan 27 2018 A man who took a Tacoma security guard’s gun and shot him in the arm was found not guilty by reason of insanity Wednesday.
Superior Court Judge Frank Cuthbertson accepted 39-year-old Clifford Adam Wilson’s insanity plea to the charges of first-degree assault and first-degree robbery.
The order Cuthbertson signed sends Wilson to a state mental hospital for treatment and prevents him from being released without a further court order.
Wilson attacked the security guard about 4 a.m. Sept, 9, 2015 in the 3000 block of South Tacoma Way after the guard found the man sleeping on a loading dock and told him he needed to leave.
First Wilson grabbed the guard’s gun and pistol-whipped him, and then he shot the guard in the forearm.
The guard was treated at a hospital and released.
Wilson has shown symptoms of schizophrenia and reportedly suffered from paranoia and delusions at the time of the attack, including that he was being targeted for his sports memorabilia and food stamp card, according to courts records.
