Mom allegedly tried to run over Peoria school principal and security officer
PEORIA IL Jan 29 2018 — Behind the wheel, an irate mother allegedly tried to run over a principal and security officer at her daughter’s elementary school Friday.
The trouble started as students were getting out of Hines Primary School, 4603 N. Knoxville Ave., according to a Peoria police report. Security officer Kwan O’Neal said he had tried multiple times during the week to serve criminal trespass papers on a 24-year-old woman at her Peoria residence, but she had not been home. The report did not explain the nature of the trespassing papers, which O’Neal on Friday decided to serve on the woman at Hines, which her daughter attends, according to the report.
As school dismissed for the day, the mom and her boyfriend arrived by car to pick up the girl, the report stated. O’Neal went to serve the papers at the car, accompanied by the school’s principal, Matthew Durr. As the two reached the vehicle, the boyfriend had stepped out of the front-passenger seat to assist the girl into the car. As O’Neal tried to talk, the boyfriend started cursing at him and refused to listen, the report stated.
O’Neal and Durr then walked around to the driver side of the car to approach the mother, who was behind the wheel. As O’Neal tried to explain the papers, she said, “I have to go to work,” then started cursing at him, according to the report.
She then drove off. With O’Neal and Durr so close to the car, they felt she had tried to hit them, according to police. They both told police, “She tried to run us over.”
Police later talked to the woman, who admitted to cursing at the men but denied trying to run them over, the report stated. There are video cameras in the parking lot.
O’Neal requested charges pressed against the woman. However, police let her go pending further interviews with witnesses.
