Man, 18, shot by security officer in Maniwaki courthouse

An 18 year old man has been hospitalized after being shot in the head by a court security officer during an altercation.
Police say that the man grabbed a special constable’s baton and struck him, at which point the man was shot.
The Sureté du Quebec said the incident took place about 1 p.m. Wednesday between a court security officer and the young man at the courthouse about 130 kilometres north of Ottawa.
A video filmed by a witness and posted on Facebook shows part of the scuffle where the officer tries to subdue the teen by placing him in a headlock.
The young man refused to submit so the security officer then asks for help from his colleagues and to call for police.
The video shows that several other security officers come to aid the court constable but the struggle continues as both men move into another room.
In the video, filmed by Chris Lacaille, there is a lot shows a lot of commotion, shouting, and then a shot is fired.
Quebec’s bureau of independent investigators (the BEI) is reporting that the man seized a baton from the court security officer and hit him on the head. The court security officer then shot the man, once, striking him in the head. .
So far the condition of both injured men is unclear, although Lacaille said the shooting victim was struck near the eye and the bullet lodged in his neck.
Sgt. Marc Tessier says the injuries sustained by the two were deemed serious, but couldn’t say if their lives were in danger.
The BEI is investigating the incident.
