Redwood City man accused of Stanford Mall crime spree, assaulting security agent
Palo Alto CA Feb 3 2018 A 41-year-old man was arrested for robbing a restaurant at a Stanford mall, threatening people, spitting on a paramedic and headbutting a nurse in Palo Alto, authorities said Wednesday.
Javas Debois Minor, of Redwood City, was booked at the Santa Clara County Jail on Monday night and faces felony and misdemeanor charges for robbery, making threats, resisting arrest and assault, according to the Palo Alto Police Department.
Minor’s crime spree started at 7:11 p.m., police said, when he allegedly groped the buttocks of a woman at Macy’s at the Stanford Shopping Center. The woman is not pressing charges for assault against Minor, police said.
But when a store loss prevention officer confronted Minor, he allegedly punched the security guard in the jaw. The officer had a laceration on his tongue from the punch but was not transported to the hospital, police said.
Minor then fled the clothing store and went to the restaurant, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, near Macy’s, where he told kitchen staff he had a gun and started taking food from the takeout counter of the kitchen, police said.
He allegedly threatened to kill several employees, raised a fist “menacingly in the face of female employee” and threw a plate at another employee, police said. No one was injured or reported seeing a gun.
Officers found Minor minutes after the alleged restaurant incident at a transit depot and took him into custody. No gun was located.
As officers attempted to take Minor to the patrol car, he reportedly kicked one of the officers, but missed. He was then transported to the police station, where he claimed that he could not feel his feet due to a medical condition, police said.
Paramedics were summoned to assess Minor’s condition. As they examined him, Minor allegedly spat in the face of one of the paramedics, police said.
Minor was transported to the hospital for medical clearance before being booked in jail, and at the hospital he attempted to bite a nurse before headbutting the man, police said.
The nurse reportedly sustained minor injuries to his nose and forehead, and was treated at the hospital.
Minor was eventually booked into jail after being cleared by the hospital, police said.
