Florida security guard caught downloading child porn while on duty
Sarasota FL Feb 4 2018 A Venice, Florida, security guard is facing charges after detectives say he was downloading child pornography while on duty, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
Dennis James Pomroy, 32, was arrested Wednesday and charged with transmission of obscene material. He is being held at the Sarasota County jail on a $25,000 bond.
An undercover detective tracked an IP address that had been used to download 29 files identified as child pornography by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and traced it back to the guard house at the main gate of the Venetian Golf and River Club, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Using “employee sign-in registers” provided by Victory Security, which provides security for the community, detectives identified Pomroy as a suspect since he had been working on 10 separate occasions when child pornography was downloaded using the guard house’s IP address.
On Wednesday afternoon, with a search warrant in hand, detectives seized Pomroy’s laptop during a search of the guard house while he was the only guard on duty.
During a preliminary scan of the laptop, detectives say they found child pornography files and evidence that Pomroy may have used a “scrub cleaner” to delete some additional files.
When detectives interviewed Pomroy, they say he admitted to being the only person with access to his laptop.
