FEB 7 Police say Lady Luck Casino cashier stuffed cash into her pants
Farmington PA Feb 7 2018 State police are accusing an employee of the Lady Luck Casino at Nemacolin with stuffing $322.25 into her pants while she worked in the “cage” area of the casino’s main bank.
Police said Caitlin A. Conway, 27, of Gibbon Glade, was working as a cashier when internal audits uncovered discrepancies in her accounting, and surveillance showed her shoving cash into her pants multiple times over a three-day period starting in the early-morning hours of Jan. 13.
According to the criminal complaint against her, police said Conway was recorded on the security cameras counting money in the cage when she appeared to separate $34 from one money bag and tried to use some sleight-of-hand to conceal the money before stuffing it into the front of her pants and tossing the associated drop slip into the trash.
“While palming the money in her left hand, Conway covered her hands with the drop slips while she slipped the money from her left hand to her right hand before placing the money down the front right portion of her pants,” wrote Trooper Scott Williams of the state police Bureau of Gaming Enforcement.
Early the next day, she was counting money and shuffling money bags on a cart at her counter when she allegedly tucked another $105 into her pants while appearing to tuck in her shirt.
On the third day, she was again shuffling bags at her counter when she appeared to reach under the counter and pull out a crumpled item that she stuck in her pants. The casino’s recorded loss that day was $183.25, police said.
Conway allegedly admitted to police in an interview that she took $50 to $100, the affidavit said. Police filed one count of theft by unlawful taking against her with District Judge Nathan A. Henning.
