Staten Island Western Beef shoplifter pulls knife on security officer
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y March 18 2018 — A New Brighton man is accused of pulling a knife on a security guard at a Stapleton supermarket Friday afternoon, police said.
Lucio Manzano, 33, allegedly threatened the guard with the blade inside the Western Beef on Bay Street at around noon, according to an NYPD spokesman.
Manzano said, “I have a knife,” police allege.
The guard was not injured.
The security guard said the suspect was spotted tucking products under his coat, and he confronted the man when store workers pointed him out.
The defendant then pulled a knife out of his pocket and pointed it at him, said the guard.
“I just stepped back and went to call the cops,” he said. “We kept him in the store until cops arrived.”
Manzano, of the 200 block of Westervelt Avenue, was arrested and charged with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment, police said.
