Teens involved in Harlem Irving Plaza disturbance arrested after foot chase by police, mall security
Norridge IL March 18 2018 Two boys were charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass March 10 after police were dispatched to the Harlem Irving Plaza.
The two, a 17-year-old from Crystal Lake , and a 16-year-old from Chicago, have pending court dates.
The Chicago teen also faces a battery charge. Police were dispatched at 7:44 p.m. for a report of a disturbance at the Shoe MGK kiosk. Officers were told the two were walking toward Harlem Avenue.
Police stopped them near Harlem. Officers were met by security agents who said they wanted to sign complaints and have them arrested.
The teens then ran toward Harlem Avenue. Norridge police officers, along with mall security, ran after them, losing sight of them in the alley behind Old Navy, 4115 N. Harlem.
Officers were checking dumpsters, and one teen popped out as a lid was lifted. A Norridge officer drew his weapon and ordered the teen out.
The teen raised his hands but was not getting out, police said. The officer holstered his weapon and assisted the teen out of the dumpster, holding him by the back of his belt and pants, according to police.
Police discovered the other teen in a dumpster and while one officer drew her weapon and another drew his stun gun, officers urged him to leave the dumpster.
Another officer arrived, and the teen was assisted in getting out, taken to the ground and handcuffed.
A security officer told police the teens were at the mall earlier when mall security was flagged down by a housekeeping staff member about a fight at the MGK shoe kiosk.
The two were advised at that time that they were not allowed on the mall property and that if they returned they would be arrested for criminal trespass.
At 7:44 p.m., a mall security officer was informed that the two were trying to fight and were causing a disturbance.
