Security guard won millions, blew it, then robbed banks
Los Angeles CA March 20 2018 A southern California lottery winner who blew through his share of a whopping $19-million bounty has been convicted of four bank robberies.
Cops say James Allen Hayes, 55 — also known as James Killen and Ceaser Killen — was indicted last October in connection with bank heists in Newhall, Valencia and Santa Barbara counties.
Detectives called him the Seasoned Bandit because of his grey/white hair and PT Cruiser Bandit due to his choice of getaway car
The M.O. was the same in each caper: The robber slipped a note to bank tellers demanding cash, and told them they’d be shot if they didn’t comply.
As part of his deal, Hayes had to surrender his light-coloured PT Cruiser.
Hayes was a security guard supervisor working the graveyard shift in 1998 when he won the $19-million SuperLotto jackpot, according to police.
His ex-wife, however, relieved him of half his winnings. Hayes took a $6-million lump sum — and promptly developed a $1,000 a week heroin habit.
When he was busted by the FBI last October, Hayes’ crib was an abandoned garage.
He faces 20 years in the big house when he is sentenced June 7.
