Hard-boiled egg links West Palm Beach man to bank robbery
GAINESVILLE,Fla. May 7 2018 Police identified a man from West Palm Beach as a suspect in a bank robbery, thanks to a hard-boiled egg.
The Gainesville Police Department believes 33-year-old Wayne Merle Knox of West Palm Beach robbed the Capital City Bank on Wednesday. Police say the man asked the teller for cash and then disappeared after running down a path.
Police found a hard-boiled egg in a jacket left behind on the path; police say the hard-boiled egg came from a homeless shelter where Knox stayed.
Employees at the homeless shelter told police they had handed out eggs to people on the day of the robbery. An employee at the homeless shelter also identified Knox as the robber on surveillance video, police said.
Police discovered fingerprints matching Knox’s on the path leading out of the bank.
Police are still looking for Knox and ask anyone with information to call police at 352-955-1818 or Crime Stoppers at 352-372-STOP.
