NY police officer dies in motorcycle crash
Kent NY June 9 2018
An off-duty Carmel police officer died after a motorcycle crash with a mail truck in Kent on Thursday, police said.
Gary Pietropaolo, 29, was riding a motorcycle east on Route 301 when he collided with a mail truck that was backing out of a driveway near Ninham Road around 4:30 p.m., Kent police said.
Police said they are investigating the cause of death of Pietropaolo, who was a Fishkill resident and the son of a retired Yonkers police officer.
Officers arrived and found the mail truck diagonal in the road and Pietropaolo down on the pavement, police said.
An ambulance was taking him to Huestis Park, where a helicopter was supposed to land and fly him to Westchester Medical Center, but he went into cardiac arrest, so the ambulance drove him to Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, where he died, police said.
Route 301 was closed for several hours as police investigated with the help of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Department. The investigation is ongoing. lohud.com
